A toiletry thief who snatched hundreds of pounds out of the hands of a pensioner queuing at the bank has appeared in court.

Samuel Brunton was standing behind a man in his 70’s in the queue at a Lloyds Bank in Chatham High Street when he grabbed £200 he was holding.

The 36-year-old ran from the scene after committing the crime on Monday, September 25.

Then on Tuesday, November 28, Brunton, of no fixed address, stole from the Boots in the Pentagon Centre.

He placed razor blades and other toiletries valued at more than £460 in a bag and left without attempting to pay.

Last Friday officers on patrol in Bryant Street spotted Brunton and arrested him.

He was later charged by investigators with both thefts and remanded in custody.

He appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday where he pleaded guilty to both offences.

Brunton has been conditionally bailed and will be sentenced at the same court on Wednesday, February 28.
