An amusement arcade which has been a hit with families for more than 40 years could be getting a £3 million makeover if plans are approved.
The proposals for Jimmy G’s in The Promenade, Leysdown, will see adventure golf, augmented reality darts, and a four-storey soft play area added to the seaside favourite.
Also included in the application to Swale council is a show bar and sun terrace restaurant, which will offer live entertainment.
Godden Gaming has submitted the transformative plans for the building, which has been an amusement centre since 1983.
It says it will be “a year-round attraction to the people of Swale” and “complement” its current arcade.
It added: “The development would enhance the existing facilities, create new full-time and seasonal jobs, and promote better placemaking of a popular and well-established tourism facility.
“It has been designed to result in a high-quality refurbishment that will complement the existing building and enhance the site’s visual appearance from the surrounding area.”
The company has six amusement centres across the country including Jimmy G’s and Palace Amusements in Ramsgate.
Cllr Tara Noe, who represents Sheppey East on Swale council, welcomed the plans.
She said: “Jimmy G’s is already a popular spot, drawing tourists and locals.
“A refurbishment will add energy and excitement to the area, offering an even bigger reason for people to visit Leysdown.
“It is a great investment, not just in a business, but in this holiday destination.”
To make way for the extension at the back and side of the arcade, a single-storey boarded-up building will be demolished.
The existing outdoor rides will then be brought inside and housed in the new rear extension.
In total, there will be an increase in ground floor space of 1,549 square metres – up from 2142sq m to 3691sq m.
The new-look centre – which will have new windows at the northern, southern, and eastern sides of the building – will also be more accessible thanks to a new lift and internal ramp.
The car park is to be extended too, with an additional 52 spaces – taking the total to 299. Fourteen of those will be for Blue Badge holders and 26 will have EV charging points.
The number of jobs will increase to 25.
