Volvo crashes into railway fence off Brielle Way, Sheerness

A car has crashed into a railway fence which runs parallel to a busy main route.

Pictures show a silver Volvo XC40 on the metal fence which runs next to the track off Brielle Way, Sheerness, near the Gefco Vehicle Technical Centre.

Police were called at around 1.40pm to reports of a two-vehicle crash.

Minor injuries have been reported to officers.

A police spokesman added: “Officers are currently at the scene so traffic is heavier in the area while the incident is attended to.”

Southeastern confirmed that its services are running as normal.

Network Rail, which maintains the train line, said its staff were also at the scene and working to deal with the incident.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police said: “We were called to the line at Brielle Way, Sheerness, at around 1.45pm today following reports that a car had gone through the fences alongside the railway line.

“Officers attended, alongside colleagues from Kent Fire and Rescue, and the vehicle was recovered from the side of the tracks and the driver checked over by paramedics.”
