Arrest after serious collision in Queenborough Road, Halfway, Sheerness

A man has been arrested after a serious collision in which a passenger needed to be rescued from their car.

Police are appealing for witnesses and dashcam footage following the crash involving a red Vauxhall Astra and a Grey Peugeot 2008 in Queenborough Road, Halfway, Sheerness.

Witnesses reported hearing a loud bang when the crash happened at around 7.40pm on Saturday (July 20).

The ambulance service and fire service also attended.

A police spokesman said the driver of the Vauxhall had left before they arrived.

A woman who was a passenger in the Peugeot was extracted from the car by fire crews and taken to a London hospital, where she remains in a serious condition.

Two men from the same vehicle were also taken to hospital.

A suspect, who is in his 20s, was arrested in connection with the incident later the same evening.

The man was bailed to return to the police station while further investigation work continues.

Two fire engines attended the accident and were there until just before 8.30pm.

The emergency services closed Queenborough Road, near Sheerness East Working Men’s Club.

Diversions were put in place.

Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision and has not yet spoken to them to call 01795 419119 quoting reference 46/120410/24.

Motorists with dashcam and residents with private CCTV are also urged to check for relevant footage.
