Progress on a new multi-million pound supermarket can be seen clearly in new drone footage released.
Discount giant Aldi is spending £9 million on its latest site at Neats Court in Queenborough on Sheppey.
The flyover footage comes just days after the German retailer confirmed an April 2024 opening date for the site.
In the video, diggers, workers in hard hats, vans, forklifts and a crane can be seen as the construction of the exterior of the shop continues.
When finished the Queenborough site will be a third larger than the existing premises in Sheerness with an additional 59 parking spaces. When the new store opens, the existing branch will close with Home Bargains expected to move in.
It will also have new cycle and pedestrian links.
An Aldi spokesperson told KentOnline that construction is “progressing well”.
However, there have been concerns raised about the new location.
One social media user said: “It’s totally stupid. People with no transport won't be able to use the new one.”
Another said that a “boycott of the store is the best thing”. Adding: “Old people and people who do not drive cannot shop in the new store. It’s selfish, greedy.”
However, another pointed out that Islanders will have both a Home Bargains and an Aldi which will mean “most people apart from the odd few will be very happy".
