Around 1,200 properties were left without water for more than five hours.

Southern Water says a power cut at its Kingsborough Water Tower in Eastchurch Road impacted its supplies to homes and businesses on Sheppey.

Eastchurch, Minster and Brambledown were affected from 9.30am to around 2.30pm today (November, 20).

UK Power Network says that the issues were caused by a fault with an underground cable.

It said that the site had been affected since 7.30am and apologised for any inconvenience caused by the power cut.

A backup generator is being installed which will bring back water while engineers are working to fix the cable.

Southern Water said: “We're sorry a power outage at our Kingsborough Tower water storage reservoir interrupted supplies of water this morning.

“By bringing generators to the site, we were able to get the water flowing again and all customers are back in supply."
