Staff discovered the youths damaging tiles at around 6am yesterday (August 22).

In one of the pictures, a child appears to be sliding down the roof.

Swale Community Leisure, which manages the site, posting on social media, said: “Following previous incidents of vandalism at the centre, we were very disappointed to discover a group of children had trespassed onto our roof at around 6am this morning, putting themselves in serious danger and damaging roof tiles.”

It added: “Thankfully no one was injured, but as a centre that prides itself on providing a safe space for the whole community to be active together, we felt the responsible thing was to let everyone know about this incident so that parents and guardians can speak with their children about how dangerous events like this can be.”

Police were alerted to reports of children causing criminal damage just before 6.45am.

Officers attended after the group was reported to have returned to the site. However, they had left prior to the officers’ arrival.

Police say enquiries are ongoing.
