A derelict former library has gone up in flames for the second time in just over a year, with the latest blaze once again being treated as “suspicious”.
Firefighters were called to the old county library in Trinity Road, Sheerness last night.
The alarm was raised just after 10.20pm and two fire engines were sent.
Crews wearing breathing apparatus used hose reel jets to put out the flames, which were coming from waste and timber sheets.
No injuries were reported but the fire service says the “cause is being treated as suspicious”.
This is the second fire at the building in little over a year after a suspected arson attack last July.
It is next to the abandoned Victorian water tower which was also set on fire in September 2022.
Police also attended last night and have launched an investigation into the cause.
