A flood alert has been put in place – with thousands of Kent residents potentially being impacted by high tides.

The Environment Agency has warned residents of the Isle of Sheppey and along the north Kent coast to brace themselves.

People between Kemsley and Seasalter could be affected, which includes Sheerness, Sittingbourne and Faversham areas.

Tides are expected to be higher than usual due to forecast weather conditions, with the tide expected to reach its peak at 2.45pm tomorrow (Sunday, January 14).

Areas most at risk will be low-lying land, promenades and coastal footpaths – though no property flooding is expected.

The government body warns flooding could be possible between 12.45pm and 4.45pm – with an update coming from the body at 5pm on Sunday.

Higher than normal tides are expected to last for the next few days, and people are asked to be careful along beaches, promenades, coastal footpaths and roads as large waves and sea spray could be dangerous.

For those that need it, the total peak water level at Sheerness is forecasted to be 3.46m AOD.
