Bin workers considering strike action have received an improved pay offer.

GMB Union has been balloting its members working for Suez, which took over Swale’s waste contract in March.

It comes after it emerged staff working in the borough, and Ashford, earned less than their counterparts in Maidstone.

For example, loaders there are on £13 per hour and drivers £17, while in Swale and Ashford, staff receive £12 and £15 respectively.

However, after receiving a new offer, GMB union members are now voting on whether to accept it.

Suez has come under fire for its performance to date, with nearly 40,000 reports of missed collections up until July.

Swale council has set up an inquiry into the problems surrounding the new contract.
