A 20ft tree has been donated to a children’s hospice in time for Christmas after its owner appealed for help to get it there.

Hannah Brown, from Milton Regis in Sittingbourne, has been growing the fir tree in her garden for around 15 years.

But to make way for her new extension, the beloved tree had to go.

Instead of shredding the fir, Hannah took to social media to see if any charities wanted to come forward to make use of it.

A few people suggested Bobbing-based Demelza hospice.

“It was an obvious choice,” said Hannah. “Being a children’s hospice it might give a little cheer through what is a tough time for families.”

She added: “I love my tree so to share it with the children rather than just shred it made perfect sense.”

But when Demelza tried to find a way of getting the tree, it was unable to find any hired help who could get the job done.

Hannah once again took to social media and was inundated with offers.

Ross Hewer, from Road Rail Plant on Trinity Trading Estate in Sittingbourne, was the first to respond to Hannah’s plea and team members Liam and Leo joined him to help.

Between the three of them, they managed to wrestle the tree over Hannah’s fence and onto the flatbed truck to deliver it.

The tree was then decorated by Demelza with lights, baubles and a star.

Hannah said she hopes the tree “will bring a bit of joy over Christmas” to the families who use the hospice.

Demelza’s regional fundraiser, Loren Regan, thanked Hannah for the donation.

She said: “We are so grateful to Hannah.

“From everyone at Demelza – thank you Hannah for your fantastic donation and to everyone at Road Rail Plant for collecting and delivering the tree.”
