More rubbish has been spotted in what is fast becoming a fly-tipping hotspot.

Building materials, wooden furniture, and tarpaulin were among the waste dumped in Parsonage Lane, Sittingbourne, just off Sheppey Way in Bobbing last month – leaving council officers “disappointed”.

Leaking oil drums, Stella Artois beer cans and other building rubbish were tipped in the same location in September.

There were delays in clearing the waste as investigators believed asbestos was among it.

Mick Collins saw the new rubbish pile on the country lane at around 11am on Wednesday, December 27, and reported it to Swale council.

The waste was cleared on Saturday, January 6 by the local authority which says there had been delays in clearing it due to its size.

A council spokesman called the tippers “selfish” and called on residents to continue to report incidents.

“It is incredibly disappointing to see selfish individuals using our country lanes as their dumping grounds,” they added.

“When we are informed about fly-tipping, and after an investigation, we instruct our contractor to clear any illegally dumped waste.

“We take the act of fly-tipping very seriously and we investigate many incidents to try and track down and prosecute those responsible, with recent success in court.

“We also work with the Kent Resource Partnership and Kent Police Rural task force to stop vehicles carrying waste and issue fixed penalty notices (FPN’s) to anyone found to be carrying it illegally.

“With the recent changes to Kent County Council’s waste disposal charges, people have even less of an excuse to ruin our natural environment and divert taxpayers’ money from other services.

“It is important to remember that if any illegally dumped waste is tracked back to you, you could also face a fixed penalty notice. So please check that services you use are correctly licensed and that you get a written receipt or transfer note.”

The council has asked witnesses of a waste-related crime in action to please call 999.
