A new school for children with special educational needs has received a glowing Ofsted report.
ALP Sittingbourne was judged by the education watchdog to be “good” overall with inspectors recognising its “exceptionally enriching” personal programmes.
Inspectors visited the new site in Bell Road over three dates last month and published their report on September 28.
They found the school was “outstanding” in personal development and also noted how pupils particularly enjoy their time at its outdoor learning provision, The Lodge.
Here the students learn to care for the school’s wide range of animals which includes a giant tortoise as well benefit from swimming lessons and woodland school.
The school was also rated “good” in the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, as well as leadership and management.
Headteacher Jennifer Thomason said she was “delighted” by the grading.
She added: “I would like to thank and congratulate all the staff who have worked incredibly hard since we opened our doors.
“It was our privilege to share with the inspectors our outdoor learning provision, The Lodge.
“We were delighted to showcase our wonderful school, staff and students over the three-day inspection.”
There are 22 pupils, ranging from seven to 19 years old, enrolled at the school which has capacity for 40 children.
The Alternative Learning Project (ALP) specialises in education placements for young people who have struggled in mainstream education due to their special educational needs.
It caters for students through small classes or one to one learning where the curriculum is tailored to the needs of the individual.
The project opened its second site in Kent in September 2022 with the other being Pierview Academy in Gravesend.
ALP Group proprietor, Gemma Gosden, said: “As a group, we have embarked on a lengthy journey to attain these objectives, and we express our profound gratitude to our dedicated staff, valued stakeholders, and collaborative partners for their significant contributions.
“With the attainment of the ‘good’ rating across the ALP Group, we eagerly anticipate our ongoing commitment to delivering the highest quality education to the children and young individuals under our care.”
