More road closures have been announced as part of a multi-million-pound roundabout revamp.

Swale Way, in Kemsley, near Sittingbourne, which connects the Eurolink Industrial Estate with the A249, is to be partially closed.

Works will take place for 23 days in two separate closures, between Lloyd Drive up to the Swale Way roundabout.

The closures are to allow for the installation of services and drainage.

The first will be Sheppey-bound and will be for nine days between 6am on Monday, August 5 and 10pm on Wednesday, August 14.

Jacksons Civil Engineering, which has been contracted by KCC Highways to deliver the £32.7 million scheme, has issued an official diversion route.

Drivers wanting to get to the Swale Way roundabout from Barge Way will be directed to Castle Road, Eurolink Way and the B2006 up to the Bobbing roundabout.

From there they will take the slip road onto the A249 Sheppey-bound to the Sheppey Way roundabout at Ridham, then turn Maidstone-bound on the A249 back to the Swale Way roundabout via Kemsley exit slip road.

Then the road will be shut heading towards Sittingbourne for two weeks from 6am on Tuesday, August 27 until 10pm on Monday, September 9.

It comes after the closure of another main route was announced by the contractors.

Motorists will not be able to use Grovehurst Road from the junction of Cormorant Road and Grovehurst Road to Swale Way roundabout for a total of 17 days.

Then it will close again for 10 days from 6am on Thursday, August 15 to Sunday, August 25.

The Grovehurst roundabout project is due to be completed in June next year but is at least six months behind schedule.

Work started in September last year to improve the junction by installing a new second bridge over the A249.

Jacksons’ said in a statement the delay was partly caused by constraints on traffic management and utility works.

Based on estimates, the exit and entry sliproads from the Sheppey-bound A249 will reopen next month.

This will be around the same time as the new bridge deck is installed.

Traffic management on the A249 is due to be lifted in January and all other roadworks completed by May next year.
