Mercedes and Volkswagen smashed by vandals in Kemsley, Sittingbourne

Vandals have cost motorists hundreds of pounds after multiple cars were smashed up in a neighbourhood.

A Mercedes A-Class and a blue Volkswagen Caddy are just a couple of the cars that have been damaged in Kemsley, Sittingbourne.

Beth Dunkin woke up to find the window of her car shattered after parking it overnight in Coldharbour Lane while staying at her partner's house.

The 22-year-old, from Faversham, had to fork out £200 to repair the damage and was left without her car, which she relies on for getting to work, for four days.

She said: “Whoever smashed my car hasn’t thought about the after-effects. It’s just vindictive.

“I wasn’t able to use my car and then I had to spend money to fix the damage they caused.

“Of all cars, I don’t know why they chose to smash mine. I don’t even live in the area so it was just unlucky that it was there.”

Thankfully the nursery worker’s insurance covered the bulk of the cost – which rose to £700.

However, Beth said that she “doesn’t understand what the vandals are achieving” as nothing was stolen from her car during the incident which happened between Saturday, October 14 and Sunday, October 15.

The police have made enquiries into the vandalism but no suspects have been identified and no arrests made.

Around the same time that Beth’s vehicle was damaged the front window of Thomas Kane’s van was also smashed in the nearby Grovehurst Road.

The 26-year-old composite engineer uses the van for work and to pick up his son from nursery.

He assumes the damage occurred between 10pm on October 15 and 6am on October 16.

Despite having the van up and running the next day it cost Thomas £200 as he decided not to claim it on his insurance which only covered him for £175.

His wife Rebecca Thomas, said, “It’s not great considering Christmas is coming up”.

She added: “We’re obviously very annoyed.

“There seems to have been a massive increase in anti-social behaviour in the Kemsley area as a whole.”

It’s also been reported online that multiple other vehicles in the area were targeted on the same night.

The police have urged anyone with information that may assist the investigation to call the appeal line on 01795 419119, quoting crime reference 46/186615/23.
