Reports of accident involving motorbike on A249 in Sittingbourne, affecting Maidstone traffic

A motorcyclist has been taken to hospital after being involved in a crash on a busy A-road this morning.

The A249 in Sittingbourne has now fully reopened after the incident, which was first reported at 6.41am.

Traffic had been taken off at Bobbing Roundabout and diverted into the town before rejoining the Maidstone-bound carriageway further on, causing gridlock in the area.

A police spokesperson told KentOnline: “Kent Police was called by South East Coast Ambulance Service to a collision involving a motorbike and a van on the Sheerness-bound carriageway of the A249 near Bobbing.

“Officers and paramedics attended the scene where the motorcyclist was treated for injuries.

“He has been taken to a local hospital for further medical attention and arrangements are underway to recover the vehicles.”
