A main route through a village has been closed for road works as part of a primary school expansion.
Station Road in Teynham is shut from Belle Friday Close and Bradfield Avenue so a new zebra crossing can be installed.
Streetlights are also being replaced and 50 metres of the road is being re-surfaced.
The work started yesterday (October 28) and is expected to finish by Sunday, November 10.
WW Martin is overseeing the scheme and says access is being managed by a traffic marshall during working hours.
The project is part of the firm's expansion of Teynham Primary School which sits on the same junction where the work is being carried out.
The 50-year-old building is being knocked down and replaced with modern facilities which will allow the school to double its intake from 210 pupils to 420 by 2030.
The current building was supposed to be temporary but is still in use today despite inadequate insulation, heating and ventilation systems.
It will be replaced by a two-storey building which will have 12 general classrooms and two reception classrooms.
KCC approved the plans in September last year.
Head teacher Elizabeth Pearson told KentOnline previously the project will ensure families can continue to access education in their local area, and the school is “excited” about the new home.
Part of the reason behind the development is to meet the needs of the growing population in the area.
Hundreds of homes will be coming to the village as part of the Frognal Lane development after plans were approved in July.
Frognal Lane itself is being worked on by Southern Water which is carrying out road maintenance.
That started on Thursday, October 24, and is shut from the junction with Lower Road and A2 London Road for seven nights between 8pm and 5am.
The work is expected to be completed by Thursday, October 31.
Chartway, which is constructing the new builds, contributed £4.2 million to local infrastructure some of which is going towards the primary school expansion.
