Police are appealing for information about a suspected arson behind a town centre pub.

Investigators believe aderelict building to the rear of the Fountain of Ale in Fountain Street, Sittingbourne was set alight deliberately.

It happened around 9.50pm on Saturday, April 20.

Fire crews in two engines were sent to the building where they used hose reel jets to extinguish the flames.

They left at around 11.20pm.

Officer were called just after 10.13pm and are treating the fire as “suspicious”.

The owner of the Fountain of Ale pub, Malcolm Winskill, says he believes kids started it.

“They get past the hoardings every day and are drinking and smoking in there,” he added.

“I think it should be knocked down.”
