Bobbing Parish Council’s Christmas tree stolen from Archers Park roundabout in Bobbing

A 13-foot LED Christmas tree has been reported stolen from a roundabout outside a primary school.

The £1,950 festive decoration went missing from the Archers Park roundabout, in Bobbing, near Sittingbourne, just weeks after being put up.

It was one of three trees erected by Bobbing Parish Council. The other two are opposite McDonald’s in Bobbing and The Grove Park, just off Key Street and were all installed by Gala Lights, based in Aylesford.

On Thursday, at around 6.45am one of the installers reported to the council that the 1.5m wide display had disappeared.

The council reported the theft to police at 5.40pm that evening. The last confirmed sighting of it was 10pm on Wednesday.

The authority is now seeking information to help them get their 40kg tree back.

It is understood police are carrying out an investigation using CCTV from the Archers Business Park.

Police confirmed officers are carrying out enquiries.

The council clerk told KentOnline the authority is offering a reward of £500 for anyone who has information.

She said: “We have no idea who has taken it but it is heavy so it may have been more than one person.

“It is really upsetting as it is right outside the Aspire School and the children loved seeing the tree when they left for home.

“It is also disappointing someone has taken it because this is only the third year we have put up the trees for the community.

“We are very serious about getting it back.”

The council informed the parishioners the tree had been stolen on social media where people reacted to the news.

One person said: “This is awful. What is wrong with people?

“Those trees are so beautiful and a lovely addition at Christmas. I really hope it doesn’t impact having the trees up in the future years.”

Meanwhile, another commenter said: “Who would do such a thing? I hope it is returned or found soon.”
