Almost 90% of drivers stopped in Thanet crackdown face action

Almost nine in 10 drivers had to be reprimanded as police pulled over more than 100 cars in Thanet on Saturday.

Officers were seen in Margate Road, Ramsgate, and Manston Road, Manston, carrying out checks.

Police stopped 108 cars throughout the day, with a startling 88% requiring "a form of action taken against them".

Three uninsured cars were seized and other offences included using a mobile while driving, having illegal window tints and number plates and having an unsecure dog in the car.

In total 42 drivers were issues with traffic offence reports. Others received words of advice from officers.

Inspector James Johnston of the Kent Special Constabulary said: "It is vital that every road user keeps their vehicle in a roadworthy, legal and safe condition.

"The consequences of not doing so can be devastating.

"I am pleased that the vast majority of drivers we stopped recognised the importance of our work and that we have taken action where appropriate to keep the area's roads safe."
