One of Kent’s Wetherspoon pubs has been listed as the second-best ‘Spoons’ in the country, according to new research.

Put together by Q.R. Code Generator, the list is ranked based on the average total percentage of excellent ratings on Google Reviews.

And competing against sites in Manchester, Edinburgh, London and Yorkshire, Ramsgate’s Royal Victoria Pavilion has found itself claiming a spot on the podium.

With more than 4,000 five-star reviews – the highest total on the list – the seafront boozer was given a 58.48% rating, placing it second out of the 869 Wetherspoon sites.

The biggest Wetherspoon in the world, the Ramsgate branch has often received praise for its stunning location – with the rear of the property opening out to the beach.

One five-star review on Google said: “The best Wetherspoon in England, outside on the terrace you could be mistaken for being in the south of France.

“It’s truly beautiful, the view out to sea and the harbour, food and drink always reasonably priced and staff pleasant.”

Located in Harbour Parade, pub chain JD Wetherspoon took over the Grade-II listed building, with a grand opening in August 2017.

Designed by architect Stanley Davenport Adshead in 1903, the formerly derelict pavilion had stood empty for nine years before Tim Martin’s firm took over.

The £4 million project transformed the former casino – which closed in 2008 and suffered fire damage in 2011.

It now features two floors and two bars, a ground-floor beachfront beer garden, and a first-floor roof terrace.

‘Spoons fanatic David Bingham – who spent four years enjoying the “longest pub crawl in history” – admitted last year the Royal Victoria Pavilion had been the best one he had been to.

And when KentOnline reporter Rhys Griffiths took on the mammoth task of visiting all the Kent branches in the space of a weekend, he also spoke glowingly of the bar.

Elsewhere on the list, The Bishop Blaize in Manchester – located next to Manchester United’s Old Trafford stadium - took first place with a rating of 60.34% excellent reviews.

Rounding up the top three is The Caley Picture House in Edinburgh, which achieved a score of 57.83%.
