Driver’s fury as Volkswagon Lupo damaged by ‘rude’ parking stickers in Ramsgate

A furious new driver will be left out of pocket after pranksters slammed his parking by slapping x-rated stickers on his car.

Ryan Martin’s Volkswagon was hit with one label bearing crudely drawn genitals and derogatory language while another read: “Stop parking like an idiot”.

The prank unfolded when the 18-year-old, of Ramsgate, left his Lupo in The Cloisters, just off St Augustine’s Road, overnight on Monday.

Describing how he noticed scratches after easily peeling away the tags, Mr Martin said: “It’ll cost a fortune – they are rather deep so might not machine polish out.

“[The stickers] were right in the middle of my windscreen so someone has leant over and touched the car to put them there.

“It could be a zip or a belt buckle or maybe something more sinister.

“It’s a show car so deep scratches don’t look good. They definitely weren’t there before.

“It’s not acceptable to damage someone else’s car just because you’re unhappy with their parking.

“I’m new to the area but as far as I can tell not many people have had this happen to them.”

Mr Martin, who works at a car hire in Canterbury, estimates he has spent thousands on his Lupo during the past year.

He is now on the hunt for CCTV in the area in a bid to try and locate the perpetrators – and hopefully prevent anyone else from suffering the same fate.

Though he admits the stickers were amusing, any entertainment gained had come at a price – with repairs needing to be done before Mr Martin can present the car at shows.

He said: “If they have to respray the panel then I’m probably looking at over £100.

“I’ve put a lot of time and money into that car. It’s frustrating.

“People just need to learn respect.”

Parking in Thanet has long been subject to ridicule and anger from residents, with a Facebook group dedicated to sharing pictures of poorly parked cars in the district.

Kent Police says it advises drivers to take precautions wherever possible to warn off possible vandals.

Such tips include keeping the vehicle visible in well-lit areas and ensuring it is tidy.
