The devastated mother of a 26-year-old who has died after being hit by a car has described him as “the kindest person you’ll ever meet”.
Louey Davey is believed to have collapsed while crossing Fairfield Road in Broadstairs on Sunday afternoon and was then reportedly struck by the vehicle.
He was airlifted to hospital in London but his injuries were too severe to recover from and he died on Tuesday, leaving his tight-knit family heartbroken.
Speaking to KentOnline, Louey’s mum Ellen Henrick reflected on her son’s sense of humour and vibrant personality.
She said: “He was so funny, with such a great, naughty sense of humour.
“And he was the kindest person you’ll ever meet. He had such a gentle soul.
“I don't think he realised how many friends he had. He was very caring and would do anything for anybody.
“Even though he suffered so much with his mental health, he always helped anybody who needed it.
“Every day he’d ask me for a hug. He just cared about everyone.
“I just wanted him to be remembered for the wonderful boy he was and what he's done for other people and his family.”
The former Charles Dickens School pupil was also a keen animal lover and was renowned for having an eclectic taste in music.
Following his death, four of his organs have been donated in what his friends and family believe was one final selfless act typical of his character.
His friend, Matt Day, also paid tribute to Louey having started a fundraiser in a bid to help with the unexpected funeral costs facing his family.
He said: “Louey was the best friend anyone could want. You could approach him with your troubles and he’d help.
“He would accommodate anyone or any mood. If you wanted to go round there and have a drink with him you could go and do that or if you just wanted to go there and sit quietly and have a chat with him, you could do that too.
“He was such a kind person and he will be so missed.”
Police launched an appeal following the collision at about 12.30pm which is said to have involved a black Nissan Qashqai. The driver of the car stopped to assist.
A spokesman confirmed an investigation has been launched but no further details have yet been released since Louey’s death.
But despite the tragic circumstances, Ellen was keen to send a message of reassurance to the driver of the car which hit her youngest son.
“There's no blame and we feel for them as well because what an awful thing to happen to somebody,” said the 60-year-old.
“When he was hit, that would have been the end anyway because it was such a catastrophic injury.
“He wouldn't have known anything and he was in peace.”
Funeral details have not yet been confirmed.
