Pictures show a police vehicle seriously damaged following the crash with one side of the front completely torn from the car.

The officer driving the car sustained minor injuries, while the occupants of the other vehicle required no treatment.

One witness, who asked not to be named, said: “The police car was in a head-on collision with another driver.

“The damage is really bad, it looked like a write-off when I drove past.”

A police spokesperson said: “A Kent Police patrol car, which was responding to an emergency call, was involved in a collision with another car at the junction to the hospital in Ramsgate Road, Margate.

“Following vehicle recovery, the road was clear by around 11.10pm.”
