Caravans full of rubbish have been dumped in a lay-by on a busy route potentially costing taxpayers thousands to remove them.
The two trailers were discovered by Thanet District Council (TDC) on the A299 Thanet Way London-bound at a rest area between Minster and Monkton.
Council officials say they believe the caravans have been there since November 15 and are asking the public to offer any clues as to who has dumped them.
In a public statement a spokesperson said: “We are investigating two abandoned caravans full of waste, left in the London-bound lay-by between Minster and Monkton.
”If you have any information, or saw the caravans being left at this location, please email streetscene.enforcement@thanet.gov.uk.
“All information will be received in confidence.”
Images shared by the council show both covered with dirt and full of waste, while one has had its windows removed and graffiti scrawled over its body.
As the trailers have been abandoned on public land the taxpayer will likely foot the clearance bill.
Police and TDC have been contacted for comment.
