Southeastern train derails near Ramsgate railway station

An investigation has been launched after a train derailed in what authorities have described as a “low-speed” incident.

The train was spotted off the tracks near Ramsgate, sparking major delays late last night on the network – though these have since cleared.

It is understood the train was not in service at the time and was travelling at a low speed while in a depot area near Ramsgate railway station.

No injuries were reported.

A spokesperson for the Southeastern-Network Rail Alliance said: “An incident occurred last night in which an empty train, in the sidings at Ramsgate depot, derailed at low speed.

“There were no injuries, and the incident is under investigation. Services are running normally through the area this morning, at a reduced speed.

“There was some disruption to our services, and if any of our customers were delayed, they can claim Delay Repay.

“The latest travel updates are available on the Southeastern website, app, X and WhatsApp channels. We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.”
