Teen arrested after serious assault on pensioner in February in Canterbury Road, Westgate

A teenage boy has been arrested on suspicion of a serious assault after officers went to an anti-social behaviour call relating to the same alleged offender.

He had initially confronted the group after finding them in the communal area of a residential building near Westgate Library.

His attackers only relented and left the scene after being challenged by a second person and the victim was taken to QEQM Hospital in Margate for treatment after sustaining head and foot injuries.

Officers confirmed the arrest, saying they had been on the scene at the same place responding to reports of anti-social behaviour.

On arrival they spoke to a 15-year-old boy who matched the description of one of the suspects for the assault.

The teen was arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and has been released on police bail while inquiries continue.

Police had previously identified four suspects they wanted to speak to in relation to the crime.

Officers continue to appeal for witnesses and information. Call Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting 46/23933/23.
