A teenager has been charged with making a threat to kill following a disturbance caught on camera at a Tesco Express store.
Mobile phone footage captured at the branch in St Lawrence High Street, Ramsgate, on Friday showed an altercation between a young man and a security guard.
The following morning – after the video had been shared widely on social media – police arrested two suspects who have now been charged.
Liam Henge, 18, of Dunstan Avenue in Westgate-on-Sea, has been charged with making a threat to kill, while a 17-year-old from west London, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with assault.
Both have been bailed, with Henge to appear at Margate Magistrates’ Court on February 5 and the boy at Folkestone Youth Court on February 11.
A police spokesperson told KentOnline: “Kent Police was called at 5.03pm on Friday, January 17 to a disturbance involving a group of people at Tesco in St Lawrence, Ramsgate.
“It was reported threats were made to staff including a security guard, and that a door was damaged. Officers attended and two people were later arrested.
Inspector Jon Press said on Saturday: “Shop staff provide an important service to their local communities and we remain determined to do all we can to support them and keep them safe from thieves and violent offenders.
“I hope these prompt arrests will reassure both businesses and members of the public that any abuse directed to retail workers is something we are simply not willing to tolerate.”
