Woman dies after emergency services called to clifftop promenade in Cliftonville, Margate

A woman in her 30s has died following a heavy emergency service response at a clifftop promenade.

Emergency services including the air ambulance were called to the scene in the park along Cliftonville seafront at about 3.20pm yesterday.

Multiple police cars, ambulances and fire engines were spotted at the scene near the Queen’s Court flats and The Albion Rooms - the studio space run by The Libertines - along the Eastern Esplanade.

An air ambulance landed near The Oval Bandstand and Lawns in Margate shortly after 4pm.

The helicopter left at about 5.15pm, with officers confirming a woman had been pronounced dead at the scene.

A police spokesperson said: “Kent Police was called following a report of concern for a person near to Eastern Esplanade in Margate at around 3.20pm on Sunday, January 19.

“Officers attended the scene with other emergency services where a woman in her 30s was pronounced deceased. The woman’s next of kin has been informed.

“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a report is being prepared for the coroner.”
