Goudhurst, near Tunbridge Wells, coldest area in England with below freezing overnight temperatures, according to Met Office

A Kent village was found to be the coldest place in England – and temperatures are expected to continue dipping below freezing.

According to Met Office data, Goudhurst near Tunbridge Wells was found to be the chilliest place in the country between 9pm on Wednesday and 9am on Thursday.

Temperatures in the area dropped as low as -5.6 degrees celsius, earning the area the title of the place with the lowest minimum temperature.

There looks to be no end in sight for the cold snap for the next few days, with weather bosses predicting below-freezing overnight conditions over the weekend and early into next week.

Conditions are expected to be coldest on Monday, with highs of just 2 jdegrees and lows of -4 degrees.

No weather warnings are currently in place for Kent but people are advised to stay vigilant and take precautionary steps to protect themselves from the adverse climate.
