CANTERBURY TALES

Medieval maladies abound on the road out of London, but terrified citizens are running in fear of the plague. As the capital is evacuated, can you find the cure and make the journey to Canterbury? Find out at the attraction’s Halloween event, Contagious. Tours take place every Friday and Saturday night throughout October and the experience is not for the faint-hearted, or for those aged under 14. Tours run at 10-minute intervals between 6pm and 8pm. Tickets cost £8.

CRABBLE CORN MILL, DOVER

DREAMLAND, MARGATE

Sinister puppet Punchello, Festino’s Forgotten Funhouse and movie-inspired thriller The Final Cut are among the atrocious attractions at Dreamland’s first Halloween event, Screamland. During the day, visitors of all ages can indulge in some family-friendly frights, but after 6pm, the scares are suitable for ages 10 only and some are recommended only for those aged over 14. Standard park tickets are required for the daytime event, which runs until Sunday, November 1. Screamland evening events are on Friday October 23, Saturday October 24 and from Wednesday, October 28 to Saturday, October 31. Tickets for the evening cost £24.95. There will also be other Halloween events taking place at Dreamland: Singalonga the Rocky Horror Picture Show on Thursday, October 29; Cockles and Muscles Halloween Special on Friday, October 30 and The Double D’s Monster Mash on Saturday, October 31.

FORT AMHERST, CHATHAM

People have loved being scared stiff deep underground at Fort Amherst for 30 years. The Chatham attraction celebrates its 30th anniversary of Halloween horrors this year with its creepy tour through the historic underground tunnels that were built for a Napoleonic invasion. Tours for 12s to 16s and for 16s and over run from Friday, October 23 to Saturday, October 31.

GROOMBRIDGE PLACE & GARDENS, NEAR TUNBRIDGE WELLS

There’s plenty of family fun to be had between 10am and 5pm but from 5pm to 8pm, things take a darker turn as visitors are invited to step into the Enchanted Forest. This haunting experience is recommended for ages 12 and above, and under-16s must be accompanied by an adult. The event is included in the cost of admission to Groombridge Place.

Get ready to be scared in award-winning style at the Hop Farm’s Freak Week, which runs from October 26 to Saturday, October 31. An hour’s horror experience includes five new zones which promise to scare the living daylights out of even the most hardened freak fan. For over 16s only. And there will also be horror movie screenings in association with Open Air Cinema.

MARGATE WINTER GARDENS

The Winter Gardens becomes Hellgate Winter Gardens with a new scare experience, Zombie Apocalypse, taking over this Halloween. Split into four zones - Quarantine, Dead Meat, Burried Alive, Bloody Blulevard – it runs from Tuesday, October 28, to Friday, October 31, and promises to be bigger, badder and bloddier that last year. Time slots are at 6.30pm, 7.30pm, 8.30pm and 9.30pm. Tickets must be booked in advance 01843 292795. They are £8 and the experience lasts around 18 minutes. Under 16s must be accompanied by an adult.

MAIDSTONE MUSEUM

The strange world of shadows forms the focus of this year’s exhibition by Maidstone Visual Arts Network, which runs until Thursday, October 29. On that date there will be a Halloween fright night from 6pm to 9pm, featuring anaconda belly dancing and crafts. Admission is free, although there may be a charge for some activities.
