A one-way road in Whitstable has been shut for emergency gas works – and is not set to reopen for more than a week.
Tower Hill in Whitstable closed on November 28 to allow work by SGN to take place.
The closure is set to last nine days, coming to an end by 6pm on Wednesday, December 6.
The alternative route during the closure is via Tankerton Road.
Residents will be able to access Tower Hill via Park Avenue, with the one-way order on Tower Hill temporarily suspended for those who live there.
An SGN spokesman said: “We’re carrying out urgent repairs to our gas network in Tower Hill, Whitstable following a leak on a metal gas main. We’re working to transfer gas services from the metal main to newer plastic pipes.
“For everyone’s safety around our work area, we’ve temporarily closed Beach Walk and Tower Hill and installed temporary traffic lights in Northwood Road, Tankerton Road and Tower Parade. Road users can still access Tower Hill, which is one way.
“All being well, we hope to complete our work by Wednesday 6 December. We’re sorry for any disruption our work may cause to the local community.”
Kent County Council declined to comment.
